The Surface Engineering Center of CIDETEC, a technological center member of the BRTA (Basque Research & Technology Alliance) has entrusted Grupo Álava as a supplier of high-level scientific and technological equipment, equipping itself with a GD-OES luminescent discharge lamp optical emission spectroscopy system from HORIBA, a world reference in this type of equipment.

The company was without techniques to analyze the elemental composition and thickness characterization of multilayer coatings and/or high value-added conductive, nonconductive and hybrid materials.

Grupo Álava has provided this new optical emission spectrometer for the characterization of the elemental composition and thickness of multilayer coatings and/or conductive, non-conductive and hybrid materials of high added value.

Thanks to this equipment, the Technology Center will obtain previously unknown information on coatings of different nature and surface treatments, especially when it comes to elemental composition profiles with a high degree of resolution. Single and multilayer coatings even of extreme thinness will no longer hold any secrets for CIDETEC researchers.

Jorge de Pedro, KAM of Universities and Technology Centers in Grupo Álava, commented that "especially in the elements that will be used to transport, distribute or store hydrogen, this technology marks an important difference against all others, allowing to know precisely how deep it is porous to it and where to place barriers, something crucial for development".
