On September 1st we were present at the Workshop on Proximate Terrestrial Remote Sensing for Forestry Applications, organized by the Polytechnic School of Engineering (EPSE) of the University of Santiago de Compostela.

The main objective of the Workshop is the sharing of scientific results and practical applications of technology in forestry, as well as the practice of operational aspects of data collection and analysis. It consists of scientific-technical sessions in congress format and practical sessions of data collection in the field for subsequent analysis and computer processing.

Our colleague Sergio García from Álava Ingenieros explains how a fusion of ground and aerial LIDAR data can be carried out in forestry environments. Regarding ground data, a demo of Riegl's VZ-400i equipment is supported. This equipment, apart from allowing the best performance in demanding environments and environmental conditions, combines a novel processing architecture, internet connection and a set of MEMS sensors with the latest laser scanning technology from Riegl.

Real-time data acquisition is possible thanks to two processing platforms that allow acquisition, waveform processing, real-time recording, referencing, filtering and analysis to be performed simultaneously. Its connection to the internet via 3G/4G/LTE modem, Wifi, Bluetooth Ethernet allows you to have your data in real time.
