PROJECT OBJECTIVE
Treatment of 95% of Aguas de Aburrá
As part of the Medellín river cleanup program, Aguas Nacionales/Consorcio de Aguas de Aburrá launched a project to treat 95% of the wastewater by building the northern interceptor and the Bello treatment plant.
This megaproject transported wastewater from Medellín and Bello for secondary treatment using activated sludge, reducing the organic load and raising the river's dissolved oxygen to the levels required by the environmental authority.
