PROJECT OBJECTIVE
Integration of test bench
Within the framework of the combustion diagnosis research project, CMT-Motores Térmicos of the Universitat Politècnica de València carried out a public tender to acquire an acquisition system and combustion analysis software that could be integrated into a single-cylinder engine test bench. The objective was to use the most innovative solutions available on the market to meet the specific needs of the project.
The required software had to have advanced computational capabilities for the measurement and analysis of various aspects of combustion, such as heat emission, IC engine detonation detection, combustion noise measurement and analysis, and the definition of mathematical channels based on the acquired data.

How we made it happen
Data acquisition system
The solution provided consisted of a data acquisition system and professional software (Dewesoft), adding the combustion analysis module and RPM encoder as specifications were required.
The solution enabled high-speed acquisition and synchronization between different types of sensors, both analog and digital, counters and angle encoders, as well as CAN acquisition for subsequent joint analysis, obtaining a complete diagnosis of the instantaneous pressure measured inside the cylinder of the research engine, a single-cylinder compression ignition engine with a displacement of 1.3 liters. This system can be easily expanded to hundreds of analog, counter and CAN channels at any time.
DEWESoft X3 professional combustion analysis software offers an easy and very intuitive setup process, defining the engine type with the number of cylinders and its geometrical parameters will be ready to measure, thus optimizing the test preparation time.
The system supports angle and time-based measurements, using highly sophisticated algorithms for on-line or post-processed mathematics and statistics that are capable of calculating heat release and other thermodynamic parameters.

Adaptable and flexible technology
The solution is fully flexible for integration into any engine test bench, as different communication protocols with the control room are supported via Ethernet or RS-232 interfaces.
