PROJECT OBJECTIVE
Battery testing laboratory
The objective of the project was to install a new laboratory at 3C Test Limited (Applus+ Laboratories, UK) for testing electric vehicle batteries, in order to certify the quality and performance required by the automotive industry and comply with international standards such as ECE R100 and UN DOT 38.3.
For this purpose, a large temperature and humidity test chamber and a 200kN shaker were incorporated , allowing safe, efficient and reliable testing even on large formatbatteries.

RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Extreme conditions
The laboratory was equipped with a high-capacity climatic chamber , capable of testing batteries up to 2.8 x 2.8 m in extreme temperature (-50°C to +120°C) and vibration conditions, thanks to a shaker up to 200 kN and 400 kN for shock tests.
It incorporated O2, CO2 and H2 sensors to meet EUCAR safety levels, and an emergency system that could flood the chamber in case of failure to prevent fire or explosion .
It is one of the few systems in Europe capable of testing such large batteries, and can also be used for components in sectors such as aerospace, defense and rail. The laboratory also had additional equipment for corrosion, altitude, thermal shock and battery cyclertests.
